Looking for wild adventurous activities for a group of friends? Making London’s Docklands your base, with its cafes, restaurants, bars and hotels, you can find some fantastic, action packed activities in close proximity. From climbing the rigging, to a speedboat down the Thames, here are just a few ideas of the thrill-seekers amongst you aged 18-81!

Speedboat down the Thames - just like a secret agent!

Hop on a speedboat tour from London’s Docklands and enjoy getting wet on a wild ride! You’ll zip past many of London’s famous landmarks whilst your guide tells you the juicy details about London’s history. But it’s the thrills and spills that will have you feeling like a real action hero and leaving you with many stories to tell.

Climb the Cutty Sark rigging

Fancy channelling your inner sailor and bravely climb the famous masts of Cutty Sark? The Cutty Sark was built 150years ago and is the world’s only surviving extreme clipper. For the first time since the ship's arrival in Greenwich in 1954, visitors can climb the rigging of Cutty Sark and get a taste of what it would have been like to sail the historic ship. Whilst this experience closes from the end October until the Spring, this really is a unique experience!

Up at the O2

The iconic roof of the O2 is just asking to be climbed! Whether you consider yourself Spider-Man or an all-action spy, this exhilarating work out gives you a birds eye view of the Docklands and Greenwich. Choose to climb during the day, at twilight or at sunset for a different experience every time. The hike starts at the bottom of the arena and winds its way up through a series of stairs, ramps and walkways. The climb can take anywhere from 30minutes to an hour, depending on your fitness level and how fast you move.

Thirsty after your climb? The O2 is full of bars, restaurants and activities to fill your day or evening. Fancy a football challenge or karaoke? Want to take in a concert or sing-a-long to Abba? It’s all going on inside the O2!

Dive into wild swimming

So this one may not be as adrenaline filled as the other ideas, but it is still ‘wild’ in the wild swimming in the Docklands sense! At nearly a square kilometre, the Royal Docks offers one of London’s prime spots for open water swimming with great views and steeped in history. Swimming in the Royal Docks is available year round, but throughout the summer there’s also an exciting programme of arts, culture, sports and events to tempt you in.

Good to know: Before you dive in, you’ll need to become a member and complete a Cold Water Induction Course with Love Open Water, who also test the water and ensure it is safe to swim in.
